Favorite Bible verse
http://www.christianbookdistributors.com is interviewing me concerning my December release, Promise Me Always, and one of the things I had to send in ahead of time is my favorite Bible verse. Sounds easy enough. I started to send the one I've always claimed as my favorite - Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Then I stopped. There are SO many verses in the Bible. Is that still the one that speaks to me above all others?
Away I went, searching the scriptures. I found the verse that fits Allie's story in Promise Me Always - Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Wonderful!
Psalm 27:1 - The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? I LOVE this! When I read it again this morning, the knot in my heart just loosened. Why am I worried about my health? Why am I fretting about the future? The Lord is MY strength!! Who am I to fear? Still, the Bible is a big book, so I kept looking.
As I let my fingers do the walking, I ran across Proverbs 31. Isn't that chapter amazing? A virtuous women can have "her own works." She can be a writer, a landscaper, a teacher, a keeper at home, a doctor, or anything else. She has choices. Whatever her walk, it's her fear of the Lord that makes her virtuous. Prov. 31:30,31 - Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Have you looked at Luke 6:36-38 lately? Really looked at it? Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. I memorized these verses when I was young. But it's time to commit them to memory again. And more than that. I want to imprint them on my mind so deeply that my whole life is shaded and colored by them.
I found several others, but there's not room in this one blog for all of them. Finally I settled on Galations 5:13,14 - For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself. Isn't that the temptation? To say, God's grace will cover me and do what I want to? I want to remember that I'm here to love God and love my brothers and sisters, not to fulfill all my desires. So that's my favorite verse THIS WEEK.

GREAT post, great scripture. We were talking last night at a leader's meeting and one of the points I made was how we'v devalued scripture these days.
Good men of God have said, "What do you do when prayer and the Word are not enough?"
What do you do? Cry out for mercy! What's left? The wisdom of man?
My favorite verse is Song of Solomon 4:9. "You've ravished my heart my sister my bride with a single glance of your eye."
I love it because it shows Jesus love for us, and how pure it is. A single glance? That's amazing.
Love you, Chris.

It's hard to pick just one. :)
Prov. 3:5-6.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart (trusting can be so hard sometimes)
and lean not on your own understanding (we think we know so much, but we don't know more than He does)
In all your ways acknowledge Him (He loves the small stuff in our lives and loves it when we give Him credit and listen to His plans)
And He shall direct your paths
(we don't ever have to go it alone. Not ever). :)

Hard to pick just one. Recently Psalm 23, specifically "He leads me besides still waters, He restores my soul."
